AN EXCITING OUTDOOR ADVENTURE
If you're looking for an exciting outdoor adventure, the Haleakala self-guided bike tour is perfect for you. This 26-mile bike ride takes you down the side of Haleakala, the dormant shield volcano that makes up much of the island's eastern side. You'll start with a guided van tour from the office in the town of Haliimaile to the entrance of Haleakala National Park, then enjoy the freedom of biking down at your own pace.
Haleakala Self-Guided Bike Tour Features
Downhill Bike Riding
If you have ever biked long distances before, you know that one of the most difficult parts of the journey is navigating big hills and other obstacles. The most enjoyable part of this ride is that everything is downhill. The shuttle will take you right up to the entrance of Haleakala National Park and from there you will begin the 26-mile downhill bike ride. This tour is also self-guided, meaning you can set your own pace!
Upcountry
This bike excursion begins in the ranch areas near the summit of Haleakala and descends the many switchbacks through the towns of Upcountry Maui including Kula, and Makawao. This tour is self-paced, so you can take breaks alongside the road as often as necessary to catch your breath, have some water, or enjoy the stunning scenery. The rolling pasturelands and forested slopes of Upcountry are the perfect settings for this leisurely downhill ride.
Self Guided Tours
Self-guided tours are exactly as they sound, and offer you the opportunity to set your own pace and take as much time as you need to enjoy the amazing surroundings found on the mountain slopes. Some guests prefer the reassurance of guided tours because the van accompanies them the whole time. But if you are on the more adventurous side and are comfortable with biking, then a self-guided tour is probably the perfect option.
